Head of Data Infrastructure
Michael Ball is Head of Data Infrastructure at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The Data Infrastructure team manages ESRC's portfolio of infrastructures involved with collecting, analysing and making data available, including the UK Data Service, Understanding Society, the British Election study, Urban Big Data Centre, the Consumer Data Research Centre and a number of other longitudinal and cross sectional studies. He also has responsibility for the current ESRC data sharing policy.
He has worked across UKRI on data policy issues for a number of years, including while at BBSRC on their data sharing policy, and was involved in drafting the UKRI Common Principles on Data Policy.
