EOSC and the ESFRIs

Addressing the needs and specificities of key research communities, disciplinary and Thematic Clouds are at the very base of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). To ensure exploitation and cross-pollination of scientific data and provide researchers with access to innovative data analytics tools and services, a variety of European research infrastructures and e-infrastructures joined forces into thematic initiatives, and towards the co-creation of a common EOSC.

EOSC and HPC CoEs

High Performance Computing (HPC) is at the core of major advances and innovation and a strategic resource for Europe’s future. The European Commission has provided €77.5 million of funding to ten HPC European Centres of Excellence (CoEs), addressing the computational science skills gap in key domains through specialised training for increased adoption of advanced HPC in industry and academia. Building upon the increasing interest surrounding the connections linking HPC initiatives and the EOSC, EOSCsecretariat.eu has investigated the current landscape of European CoEs for HPC in relation to the EOSC, for the benefit of the EOSC Governance as well as EOSC stakeholders.

EOSC Regional Projects

Covering all corners of Europe, the INFRAEOSC 5b projects aim to contribute to the mapping and harmonisation of the procedures regulating the delivery of horizontal services related to research data by prospective EOSC service providers and by national initiatives located in different Member States and Associated Countries. In early 2020, the EOSC Community took another crucial step on the road to the development and implementation of the European Open Science Cloud, as all the Regional Projects signed a Collaboration Agreement in support of the EOSC Governance. Between April and May 2020, EOSCsecretariat.eu collected their position papers on EOSC.
