NIST, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, in collaboration with the IEEE Standards Association released a draft for the NIST Cloud Federation Reference Architecture. The document is currently in a Public Comment period as NIST is requesting for feedback until September 20, 2019.
The document is fruit of a cooperative effort between NCCP (the NIST Cloud Computing Program) and the IEEE/P2302 (Standards for Intercloud Interoperability and Federation). NCCP is tasked with the creation of the reference architecture, while IEEE/P2302 will use that as a basis to build a standard.
This work addresses requirement 5 of the NIST Cloud Computing Technology Roadmap (NIST SP 500-293), which encourages the development of frameworks to support seamless implementation of federated community cloud environments as part of its interoperability and portability guidance.
The NIST Cloud Federation Reference Architecture can be particularly relevant for EOSC and as such it would be useful to provide input from the EOSC community and especially from the Architecture Working Group.
